Brian Eno - An Ending (Ascent)??

Postby peanutismint » Wed Mar 02, 2011 11:06 pm

I'd love to recreate this sound on the Gaia:

Sounds almost like a flute tone with a ton of reverb.......

Anyone up to the challenge??!

That's very close. I'm gonna have to give this one a go.
But I think your patch will take some beating.

Wow, you've just answered a question that's been really bugging me, of late - ie, who did this tune. I've heard it on numerous programmes and totally love it, cheers dude, had no idea it was Eno.
Oh and your version's pretty damn good!! :D

Haha thanks, I couldn't have done it without you (if you know what I mean ;))

And yeah, it is a great track, it's been used on pretty much everything. One of my favourite artists Imogen Heap even sampled it on her song 'Hear Me Out' (when she was in the band 'Frou Frou')

See if you can spot the sample:

Here are a couple of interesting interviews with Brian Eno.

Although, he doesnt give specific information about studio set-up that he used in the 80's.

Wikipedia suggests that the original recording might have been done using a Yamaha DX7 and a lot of post processing of the sounds.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Apollo:_At ... oundtracks

Many of the tracks on the album were recorded with soft "attacks" of each note, then played backwards, with multiple heavy echoes and reverb added in both directions to merge the notes into one long flowing sound with each note greatly overlapping each adjacent note, producing the "floating" effects that Eno desired.

Never tried that, must give it a go......
