Actually looks like the Reaper DAW can render audio input as Winamp visualisations.

Thank you everyone for your replies.
FYI, one reason I got to thinking about a new version of the Gaia, is because at the Roland site for the Sound Designer software, at the bottom of the page, in a note, it says:
* Before using this product, you may need to update your GAIA SH-01 to the latest version. In order to perform the update, you will need a separately available USB memory device.
So, there are at least updates, somewhere, or coming...

Ah nice quote you found there, I was already hoping that the release of the sound designer would be followed by a firmware update… Maybe that was the cause of the delays? Anyway I hope that there will indeed be a firmware update, there’s a thing or two, or five, that they could fix :)."

That's an unusually long delay yet again, given it was supposed to be finished a year ago almost now.
What do people think? Some have rumoured it's due to an additional firmware update, but I wonder if Grauw's Gaia tool has actually trumped them... their literature makes no reference at all to arpeggio editing which is a major ommission. Right now they've got the Action List which is nice and an o-scope, but apart from that there's not much reason to look at their software.

Grauw's editor may not look glitzy, but it certainly does the job as an editor pretty well. Hopefully, he will add a couple more features to make storing and organizing patches easier. But, it's pretty amazing to say that he allows it to be downloaded for free.
Many thanks..

I don’t think my tool has trumped them to be honest, their GUI looks much nicer! Although if it causes them to not make it a lazy job of it, or maybe to reconsider the pricing, I’ll say mission accomplished
.
But actually, I’ve heard that the SH-201 editor has a pretty configurable design, so it’s not like Roland has to create an editor from scratch. I really don’t understand why it has to take so long.

I love Grauw's editor! Although I do find it somewhat confusing (anybody know if there's a manual or any tutorials for doing things like editing arpeggios/saving new patches? I've worked it out through trial and error, but I'd love to see how to do it properly..... ??
As for the sound designer software, I think that any companion software for the Gaia should be freely downloadable from Roland, given the amount many of us have already paid for the synthesiser. I'd expect nothing less!
