I have tried lots of different ones, that I use for various work projects and they have all been ok.
I now use three cheap Sandisk 2gb sticks which cost about £5 each and all work fine.

Since Grauw made the editor, I seem to be saving patches individually on my pc.

Hope this helps.

For me at least 1 USB drive doesn’t work (and that’s a shame ’cause it’s really tiny and would be ideal), but I think most’ll work file. Just don’t spend too much on one thinking because it is pricy it must be higher quality and thus more likely to work with the GAIA because I don’t think it works like that :).

I note that Rolands product is 2 gig, it's probably a wasteful go larger. I'm having a tough time finding small USB sticks for cheap around here.

I think it can be almost any. I have a duracell one that works fine. I think you can only store up to 64 patches per thumb drive so even a 256mb one would work just fine if you can find one for free.

I asked that question to a Roland Product demonstrator, and he said you can use any!

I just bought a basic USB 2.0 stick and it works fine. There is nothing specific or special about the 'official Roland' stick other than the prohibitive price and virtual non existence in stores. Would advise you do get a 2gb version, as per official recommended stick. IE you won't need a bigger capacity stick, or Roland one would be more too...
